More Than Music

An approach shaped by understanding people, atmosphere and emotion

CHAPTER I

The Power of Context.

Before music became my profession, I worked in consumer psychology, helping global brands understand why people make the decisions they do and the subtle influences that shape human behaviour. Today, that understanding influences every performance I give, shaping not only what I play, but how my music can best support the atmosphere, behaviour and energy within a space.

WHAT THE RESEARCH SAYS...

"Small details often have
the greatest influence"

AND THE EVIDENCE CAN BE FOUND IN SOME FASCINATING PLACES...

Background Music

Slow tempo music encourages retailer shoppers to slow down, browse for longer and often spend more.

Glasses of Wine

Wine

Wine poured from a heavier bottle is consistently judged to be of higher quality.

Supermarket Aisle

Supermarkets

Smaller floor tiles subtly influences shoppers to slow their pace and browse more items.

Why does this matter?

These influences often happen beneath conscious awareness, quietly shaping our experiences to influence how we think, behave and remember. When we scale this understanding to events, we learn that the best ones are rarely defined by one grand, obvious gesture. They're the result of hundreds of thoughtful decisions working together, each contributing to the atmosphere in ways we rarely notice.

"Music is powerful because few things shape emotion, atmosphere and memory so directly"

CHAPTER II

Music That Adapts

No event unfolds exactly as planned.

For that reason, I don't believe live music should be fixed or rigid. Instead, it should adapt to the occasion, complementing what's happening in the room rather than competing with it.

Because of this, I never arrive with a pre-determined set list and no song is ever played the same way twice.

Improvisation allows me to evolve with the moment and tailor each performance around the people, the atmosphere and the occasion.

CHAPTER III

Shared Vision

Each event is unique, and every performance begins by understanding what you want it to become.
Before your event, we'll talk about about the atmosphere you want to create, the moments that matter most, and the role music should play throughout the occasion.

Those conversations shape the musical direction from the very beginning, while leaving creative freedom for me to respond naturally in the moment.

The result is music that feels as though it was created specifically for your event, because from the very beginning, it was.

UNDERSTAND

We begin with a conversation to understand your vision, the atmosphere and the experience you want to create.

SHAPE

Together we shape the musical direction – carefully considered, never one-size fits all.

RESPOND

On the day, the music evolves naturally with there moment, creating the perfect ambiance in real time.
